Meals from the Heartland

Hello, all!

I’m excited to tell you about our annual Fight Hunger effort with Meals from the Heartland.  This is a chance for us as blind individuals to give back to our community.  For several years now, we have been volunteering to package meals for hungry children, and we have been invited back to do it again.  This year, our volunteer slot is on Saturday, September 2nd, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.  Location: Packaging at Hy-Vee Hall, downtown Des Moines.  Enter at 833 5th Ave (Community Choice Credit Union Convention Center, Des Moines, IA 50309.

Members of NFB will also be coordinating with Meals from the Heartland to volunteer at the same time.  This is one of those times when we can show solidarity both with our community at large and with each other as blind people as we seek to do our part to provide for the needs of those who are in situations in which they cannot provide for themselves.  I know that it doesn’t always sound like fun, getting up on a Saturday to package meals, but it is a small way we can express our desire to help others.  I have put us down for 16 volunteers.  Please email me at dolinsekcody@gmail.com or call me at 1-866-436-0141 to let me know if you can help.

Afterwards, we will plan to have lunch somewhere in the downtown area.  Looking forward to this event!
