Scholarship Opportunity

Greetings Members and Friends!

The American Council of the Blind’s annual leadership and legislative conference will take place in March of 2024.  The dates are yet to be determined by ACB.  The Des Moines Chapter of the Iowa Council of the United Blind is offering the following scholarships up to the following amounts:

Two $750 scholarships to be awarded to YATP, high school, or IDB orientation students

Two $750 scholarships to be awarded to Des Moines chapter or state members

Four $500 scholarships to be awarded to Des Moines chapter or state members.

Requirements:

1. Active member of the Iowa Council of the United Blind, or blind nonmember.

2. Apply for the scholarship by January 1, 2024.

3. Attend all or a majority of the conference.

4. Provide a verbal or written report about the experience to the chapter and/or in the ICUB bulletin.  This verbal or written report should include information about the issues discussed at key sessions, reactions of legislators to suggestions made by those in attendance, some indication about the overall attitude of legislators regarding the issues facing blind persons in the United States.  The report is not limited to the above, but however it is written, it needs to demonstrate evidence that scholarship recipients attended sessions and profited from so attending.

All those interested in attending and who meet the above requirements are invited to apply.

Priority will be given to:

1. Des Moines Chapter members

2. Members who have never been to a leadership and legislative session

3. Blind nonmembers who are interested in attending the leadership and legislative sessions.

Only one scholarship per household.

To apply, send an email to dolinsekcody@gmail.com or call 515-418-1143.  Please include your name and reason for wanting to attend.

***Active membership for this particular scholarship is defined by having paid your 2024 dues in full in addition to having actively participated in the organization by attending meetings and/or volunteering your time or talents to the chapter or the state organization.

Sincerely,

Cody Dolinsek
